Subject:
The object of MEEST is to develop a method and system that will enable users (occasional or frequent) to perform a broad array of ubiquitous (anywhere, anytime) mobile e-Commerce & e-Work using their mobile handsets. By using MEEST technology every person anywhere and any time, will be able as a consumer to use his phone as a safe and secure tool in order to pay for e-Commerce and e-Work services.
The project will develop communication layers over the 3rd generation infrastructure in order to communicate the mobile handset and MEEST server. MEEST having its speed as its main advantage will, in its first phase, base its communication on the current GSM infrastructure, using SMS and WAP. The project will attempt development of UMTS, WAP, GPRS and SMS communication layers between the different modules of the system: Mobile handset, MEEST server and the merchant’s point of sale. In addition, MEEST aims to explore the compatibility of the e-commerce applications in supporting as many e-commerce vendors’ solutions as possible through integration with e-shops allowing e-transactions. MEEST is particularly concerned with the security of those transactions, especially in the piece of the application concerned with the collaboration with financial institutions, since all data transactions will be secured and encrypted/ decrypted end-to-end.
Know-how to be gained: e-commerce & e-work applications, POS integration in electronic transactions, e-Work open interface, security in the purchase flow, 3DES algorithms, SIM applications, and digital signatures, encryption standards and procedures, private key, Visitor Location Register (VLR) authentification, GSM, GPRS and 3rd generation infrastructure, UMTS technologies for network communication components etc.
