Thus, as far as confidentiality of medical records is concerned, ATKOSoft Technology has an advanced security system. The system administrator can set rules regarding total or partial access to patient information according to organizational policy.The access and modification rights rules of users, are further enhanced by the implementation of the Medical Personnel Card that has been developed based on Smart Card technology and, if the organization wants, may be a prerequisite for the access of doctors, nurses, e.t.c. to data or parts of data of patient MHRs. In order to ensure assignment of responsibility while reflecting common practice, ATKOSoft Technology separates the roles of "issuer" of orders and "user" of the system. Recognizing that the doctor often has not the time to make entries in the system, it allows to the doctor's assistant or secretary to make the entries on his or her behalf. This, however, does not remove responsibility from the doctor since he has to check the entries, possibly at a future moment, and "sign" them electronically in the same way that he or she would have to sign a paper document.To further enhance security, after signing an entry in the MHR, the authorized user (i.e. doctor) finalizes the entry and respective Care Actions described by locking it. In addition, ATKOSoft Technology enables the software to keep full record of all crucial, past actions and transactions related with the provision of services. Thus, with only one press of a key, it is possible for the user to see which changes were made to specific records, by whom and when. This ensures not only the security of the patient records and the assignment of responsibility for past entries but also the immediate correction of any errors in data entry.An extra security level may be added via the Health Card Subsystem, which is offered optionally with ATKOSoft medical informatics software, and especially by the software addressed to Health Networks. The Health Card, which is developed based on Smart Card technology, does not allow access to the patient MHR unless the patient enters his or her Personal Identification Number (PIN), offering thus the highest possible security. |
