Telemedicine Technology

 

ATKOSoft Technology in networking and structure, allows all ATKOSoft medical informatics applications to integrate, if this is desirable, an advanced, structured telemedicine capability.

Often, when technical or medical people talk about Telemedicine, they really mean Teleconference, that is, the sporadic exchange of fragmented patient information in request of expert opinion. This usually involves tele-discussion or mechanisms similar to e-mail.

However, in such "Telemedicine" applications:

  • The expert conducting the telediagnosis usually has in his or her disposal only this fragmented piece of information - i.e. an X-Ray or an ECG and thus he seldom has a holistic view of the patient situation.

  • Many times, the Telerequest and Telediagnosis procedures are not automatically logged

  • The Telediagnosis information does not get automatically integrated into the patient MHR for future reference.

Because of its structured MHR that contains ALL medical information, ATKOSoft Technology allows to the expert to conduct diagnosis having a holistic picture of the patient's state.

In parallel, the Telemedicine process is logged and the Telediagnosis information automatically gets integrated in the patient's MHR. Thus, the ATKOSoft telemedicine system allows the logged, effective and structured communication and cooperation between two medical experts, regardless of their physical location.

In short, ATKOSoft Technology in Telemedicine:

  • Maximizes the possibility for successful diagnosis since the attendant doctor can acquire expert assistance and fully utilize available medical expertise in a fast and reliable way.

  • Ensures that the communication between the requesting and responding doctor is logged in a structured manner so that all telemedicine activity is recorded and documented. The technology makes it possible for all authorized users to retrieve all past telemedicine requests and answers within the Health Organisation or Network along with all relevant data (names of involved doctors, patient name, time and date, diagnoses, e.t.c.).

  • The answering doctor has in his or her disposal all medical history of the patient as this is included in the MHR. In this way, expert opinion and telediagnosis are based on actual medical data, diagnoses, prescriptions, care plans, e.t.c. of the patient.

Allows the dissemination of medical expertise and know-how to any doctors that may in the future access the patient MHR, developing thus the medical skills of the overall organization or network.
